This is a passion-project following 1) science and hypotheses involving the default mode network and 2) adjacent ideas and practices with an emphasis on wellbeing.
The default mode network (DMN) was discovered in 2001 by Marcus Raichle. Since then, there have been over 3000 studies exploring it – including correlations with depression, anxiety, meditation, psychedelics, mind wandering, flow state, exercise, and sense of identity. 20 years later, Raichle adds:
“I think we have more questions than we have answers in this business right now, but it’s a fascinating business.”
Marcus Raichle, 2021
While science is only beginning to understand the DMN’s most fundamental nature and deep relationship with conscious experience, what we know is sufficient to marvel-at and consider in our own lives.
This project has two aims:
- Offer a doorway for investigation, based on all that is known and postulated today.
- See here

- Follow the science, ask questions, talk to experts, talk to everyday people, share stories, share results.
